My little tool chests

I have the most wonderful neighbours.  They are elderly, retired and sometimes bored.  When they get bored they create stuff but don't know what to do with it as their house is already full of beautiful things.  So the other day I was asked once again if they could build something for me.  He was already in the process of building two small chests of drawers just for the sake of building.  He wanted to know if I could use them to store my sewing tools and thread and what not in them.  Would I have any use for them?
Hmmmmm!  Let me think!!  It took not even a second to agree that I would love to have them.  The boys and I were then promptly invited over for a sanding party and so we went and sanded and visited and when there wasn't enough for all of us to do at once, Mrs. M. brought the kids into her house and baked goodies with them for them to take home and eat.  We had a grand old time and Mr. and Mrs. M.  seemed to be thrilled to have all the buzz and activity around.
The next day, I went over again and put a coat of verathane (sp?) on and again then day after that.  Last night I brought them home and put in the little drawer nobs and here I have my two little tool chests,  making me that much more closer to being somewhat organized.  Oh, I love cupboards and drawers.  I love these so much and they are so cute!
Thank you Neighbours!!

He put small dowel pegs in some of the drawers for my big spools of thread.

This is for all the art supplies!  finally no more plastic bags and containers.

Rondevous (Sp?)

Hi Everyone,
It is that time of year again where the whole town turns out to celebrate the brightening of the sky, the coming of  Spring, the light at the end of the tunnel of winter.  Well, the boys and I went in today to look at the sculpture competition as usual and to sell mittens if possible.  Unfortunately, the weather was so bad.  The temperature was only -18 degrees Celsius but the wind was blowing in every direction, whipping up the snow and freezing everyone to the bone.  The parade had to be canceled and there were not a lot of people braving the outdoors to set up the festival booths.  It was too bad!  However,  it was perfect weather for making mittens very necessary and so C.  managed to sell $437. worth anyway.
Thankfully for us, there was an old wall tent set up on the park grounds with the wind whipping it's door flaps back and forth and it looked as if it should blow over but it had a little pot bellied stove inside which seemed to just heat the little tent up to a toasty warm and had a kettle of hot chocolate constantly boiling on the top.  It was cozy so we spent most of out time in there and as people came in to warm their toes, fingers and noses by the fire, they also bought mittens.  Perfect!
I managed to grab a few minutes to take a walk and examine on the sculptures.  I love the sculptures every year but this year, I think, had two of my absolute favorites ever.  Here are some pics.

  skinning a walrus

I'm guessing that it is the skeleton of a dragon or something.  I'm not sure.

He caught an extra large fish!

Castle in the clouds!  Tower of Babel maybe.  :0)

Artistic design

Pancake and syrup!  Got to love it!  done by Team Quebec.

Noah's Ark got a little crowded I think!

Log cabin done by team Yukon.  It won second prize. one of my favorite

The back of the cabin

First prize and I can't even remember what team sculpted it.  Little dog begging at a little burger joint.  So cute and my favorite!

Wolves howling at an owl.  Not sure why.

Hope you enjoyed the sculptures of this year.

Sunshine

Oh what a beautiful Morning!!  Oh, what a beautiful Day!!
It is so beautiful.  The temperature must have been close to -40 degrees  but the air was crisp and sweet.  The mist on the field floated just above the ground creating a hazy whispy kind of look.  Oh, what a beautiful morning!
The sun is coming up earlier and earlier everyday now and going to bed later and later at night.  It will only be another week or two and we will be having full length days again.
People are beginning to brighten and put their faces to the sun.  I've hear on more then one occasion from different people, they mentioned the sun.  One said, "The sun is getting strong again!"  I know exactly what he means.  It is not just shining low in the sky giving off it's heat into the abyss of space but we can actually feel its warmth inspite of the air temperature.
Another somebody said to me in town as she walked by, "It is so nice when the sun begins to make if feel like summer even on a -30 degree day!"  I totally agreed.
This morning the sun caught my attention and I just had to take pictures of it.  There was the sun and it's two counterparts, the sun dogs.  I love beautiful mornings.
These pictures were taken through my glass windows and even through my windows that are plasticed over.
I hope you see the beauty anyway.  We love the sun after such a long winter.  Thank God for the sun!

Here is a picture of the snow pile from clearing our driveway.  Great sledding hill!

Here is a picture of our heat supply for this winter.   We'll be warm for a long while yet!
